Virginia Metaxas, Professor Emerita, Departments of History and Gender and Women’s Studies, Southern Connecticut State University, has written about the history of childbirth and child care hospitals in 19th century NYC, the history of occupational therapy, the history of the American Women’s Hospitals in Greece, biographical histories of Dr. Esther Pohl Lovejoy and Dr. Ruth A. Parmelee, and the missionary discourse of health and disease in nineteenth century Hawai`i. She is currently working on the history of nursing education and practice in early 20th century Turkey and Greece.
