The editing collective at Nursing Clio is seeking three new staff members: one Book Reviews Editor and two new Editors!

Nursing Clio is a volunteer-run, open access, collaborative blog project that ties historical scholarship to current political, social, and cultural issues related to gender and medicine. We publish essays on bodies, sexuality, health care, medical technology, reproductive rights, and more.

Book Review Editor

Since we regularly publish book reviews and author interviews, we are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to support this work! The role of the book review editor would include corresponding with press editors and authors and soliciting reviewers and interviewers. We also welcome new ideas about how to develop the role and can meet via Zoom to discuss further.

Interested applicants should send a current C.V. and brief letter describing their interest and experience. Please send materials as a single PDF to nursingclio@gmail.com no later than August 29, 2025.

Editor

An editor reviews essays submitted by regular and guest writers to determine if they are suitable for the blog, and provides content and stylistic editorial feedback on essays that are accepted. Editors should have strong writing skills, have a background in history or related fields, and be familiar with the Chicago Manual of Style. We also hope to expand our collective fields of expertise beyond the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, so individuals who have researched gender and/or medicine in Africa, Asia, Latin America, or Oceania are especially encouraged to apply. Editing experience is preferred. Must be able to commit to editing two essays each month and attending a one-hour staff meeting at least twice a year.

Editor candidates should submit a writing sample of no more than 2,000 words. Show us a piece of your writing that you’re proud of. This doesn’t need to be an academic writing sample – it can be a blog post, a Twitter thread, a creative piece, a piece for class, an op-ed, a book review, etc. We aren’t looking for something that matches the NC style necessarily, but rather something that shows us what kind of writing you enjoy.

Interested applicants should send a letter of interest, a résumé/CV, and the writing sample to nursingclio@gmail.com. We especially encourage graduate students or recent PhD recipients to apply. Applications are due by August 29, 2025.
